Jack's 4th Birthday

Jack's birthday fell on a Wednesday, which just happened to be a preschool day. There's a nice, clean park that's surrounded by a fence just a few blocks away from his preschool, and I thought having a park play-date would be a great way to celebrate, not to mention super easy.

I picked up pizza from Costco (so delicious and inexpensive!) and had other snacks. The kids played at the park and ate, and we had a great time.
Claire and Liv were determined to climb up the slides

So silly!

Jack shared his bday balloons

Jack had initially said he wanted a Captain America shield for his cake, but the day before his birthday he changed his mind and wanted a cake that looked like the planet Uranus instead. That's his favorite planet since it's tipped on it's side and spins in a different direction than the other planets, and he likes the blue-greenish color. I thought "oh geez, how in the world am I going to make a cake look like Uranus?!?" Luckily I have a super sweet friend named Sarah who is an artist, and I enlisted her help to decorate the cake. I made one layer blue, the other green, and then we mixed shades of green and blue and white buttercream frosting to decorate the cake. I thought it looked pretty good, considering it was supposed to look like a planet!

We invited our neighbors over for an impromptu birthday song, cake and present opening. Jack said he had a fun birthday, so even though it was pretty low key, he was happy.

Happy birthday, my little man!!
