I realized yesterday that I never posted about Jack's glasses. Silly me! So here's the story.
One Saturday (November 10 to be exact), Jack and I were eating breakfast when he mentioned to me that he saw two spoons. A little later he said he saw two daddys. Then while he was watching tv, his eyes crossed. And then they crossed again. And again. And he reached out to take a sucker and grabbed to the side of the sucker instead of grabbing it. Jay and I were pretty concerned. Luckily Jay has an acquaintance that happens to be a pediatric optometrist. So Jay called him and described what was going on, and his friend said either he needed glasses or an MRI, but was pretty sure it was glasses since Jack hadn't sustained any head injuries recently. He said to get him to the doctor to check it out, so I took him to the pediatrician to get a referral for an ophthalmologist that next Monday. I was just a little frustrated when I called to get him an appointment for the ophthalmologist and they couldn't get us in for almost three weeks. But what can you do?
Our appointment was for November 29 so it was great that my mom had come out after Claire was born to help out cause there is no way I could've taken two kids by myself, and Jay was back at work that day. The doctor dilated Jack's eyes, so he had to get drops, which was super tramatic. And the prescription we got was super strong. (He's very near sighted)
Jay's optometrist friend asked what prescription we received before we got glasses, and mentioned it was pretty strong and asked if his office could give a second opinion. So after going to another doctor that checked out Jack's eyes without dilating them, we got a less strong prescription that we felt more comfortable with. And we found very nice glasses that fit him well.
It took a few weeks for them to make the lenses, but the day we picked up the glasses, Jack wore them without taking them off. And then every morning after that he would ask to wear his glasses, so they obviously made a difference. And he's been wearing them pretty well ever since.
At first I felt like they made him look like a nerd and I was sad about it, but now I'm used to them and I think he's pretty cute.
