Since Grandma Brenda didn't get to come out a few weeks ago, she and Grandpa Alan made the day long drive from Utah to come visit us for the past week. They got here last Thursday and left yesterday. We tried to get out and do fun things, but the great thing about grandparents is they are just as content staying home and playing with their grandchildren as they are going out and exploring the city.
Friday, the 29th, was mine and Jay's 7th anniversary (wow, it just goes by so fast. Happy anniversary, Jay. I love your guts!!) and Jay's day off so we rode up north to see the Nethercutt Museum that basically is a room full of awesomely sweet, old cars. They also have a train out back that we got to explore that was really cool. And Jack got to ring the bell. He was excited.
That night we went to a Dodger's game. The Dodgers got creamed 9-0 but Jack really liked the game, and loved the fireworks afterward. He was sad to leave and kept saying we needed to go to another game. We decided to get out of the stadium before the fireworks started, thinking we'd watch them from the car and then take off to miss traffic, but we ended up standing right next to where the fireworks fired from and got to watch the whole show up close and also missed traffic. Win-win!
Of course we had to have Brenda make popcorn balls while she was here. The boys were in heaven!
Saturday we just hung out and played in the water. Jack and Ryan ran through the sprinklers in the back garden and then we had to go swimming in the pool.
Monday we headed to a big outdoor mall close to Jay's work, and met up with Jay for lunch. We had to visit the Disney store, and Grandma and Grandpa were so kind and bought Jack some Toy Story 3 toys. He doesn't have any, and has wanted some for a long time so he was ecstatic.
Tuesday Jay had the day off and we made the two hour drive to San Diego to go explore the USS Midway, a retired aircraft carrier we visited 4 years ago for Jay's birthday. Too bad the drive down took 3 hours and the drive back took 4. We don't know what was up with traffic, but it seemed like every lane closure, accident, and crazy traffic jam we could run into, we did. We love San Diego but after that much driving to get there and back, I don't know if we'll be going again anytime soon.
We did have a great time exploring the Midway, and Jack loved, loved, loved sitting in the jets and helicopters.
Yesterday we visited Franklin Park and watched the ducks, turtles, and fish in the pond before meeting up with Jay at work again so his parents could say goodbye. They headed to Vegas to pick up Aunt Sandy and nieces before making the long drive home.
We had so much fun with Grandma and Grandpa and were so sad to see them leave, as always. Love you, Grandma and Grandpa!!
