Easter Weekend

Jay had three days off from work over Easter weekend, which we couldn't plan if we tried, so we decided to take advantage and drove to Utah for a quick trip.

We left Thursday evening and drove through the night. We decided that we can't do that anymore, for many reasons. We hit traffic on the way out of LA, and I was so concerned with being in the carpool lane and passing everyone, I missed the exit for I-15 and took us on a 40 minute detour. Oops. Then we had to stop for dinner in Victorville. Instead of the normal 4 hours to get to Vegas, it took us 5 1/2. Then Jack only slept three hours, was up for two, and then slept another three. After getting gas in Nephi, we got hit with a snowstorm where there was promptly an accident which got us stuck in traffic for 30 minutes. By the time we got to Jay's parents' house (12 hour drive) Jack had slept 6 hours, I slept maybe 3 (and not a restful sleep either) and Jay hadn't slept at all. Jack was wired, but we were exhausted. We were very grateful for loving grandparents who promptly took Jack to play and sent us to take naps.

However, our trip after the long night drive was great. We got to play with family the whole time we were there. On Saturday, we went to an Easter egg hunt at a nearby park, which the kids loved. My sister Erin came with her three kids, and I think they all enjoyed the egg hunt as well. Afterwards we went to Jay's parents' house and played, colored eggs, and had a hotdog roast. I was so glad Erin came over, but we missed seeing Brian.

Sunday after church we headed down to my mom's house to spend time with Seth, Jessica, Shannan and her girls. Jack was super tired so he was being a little timid and wasn't really in a playful mood. But he enjoyed spending time with his cousins and the next day kept asking me where they all were. (that's his latest thing, he asks where someone is even if knows exactly where they are or if he can see them)

Monday we took my mom to lunch at Cafe Rio for her birthday since we wouldn't be in town that Saturday to celebrate with the rest of the family. Adrienne and her kids came down that afternoon and we played and had dinner with them.

It was a super fast trip, but I'm so glad we made it. We missed seeing all of my brothers-in-law, my sister Lauren, and my dad. Hopefully we'll get to come back soon and spend a lot more time. Oh how I miss being close to family!
