Christmas

This time of year is a little hard since Jay doesn't get any time off. It makes it so the holidays don't feel much different from the rest of the year, but we try our best to make it special. Every year I have the desire to focus more on Christ, but I never really know what to do. My oldest sister gave us a wonderful advent calendar that had a little bag for each day of December until the 24th. Inside was a card telling a story about Christ and an ornament to represent that story. It was a wonderful way to be reminded about Christ during the season and also learn more about Him. In addition to the amazing advent calendar, I found a page in last year's Friend magazine which had a little activity for every day from Dec 11-24 that focused on Christ being a light. We made star shaped cookies one day, used flashlights to find our way in the dark and talked about how Christ helps us like the flashlights help us, read scriptures talking about the Light of Christ, etc. It was a...

Where Were You?

I was at work today when I heard a loud rumbling, like a construction truck driving by. That's exactly what I thought it was until it got louder and the ground started shaking. I looked at Chris, an attorney I work with and the only other person in the room at the time, and he said "Yes, that's an earthquake." My first earthquake was definitely different than I thought it would be. It lasted about 30 seconds (which seems a lot longer when it's happening) and I could hear the walls creaking from the shaking. Luckily I was on the ground floor instead of the third floor like the rest of my co-workers. I heard they got a bit of swaying up on that level. Nothing broke or fell and everyone was fine. I wasn't really scared, I just didn't really know what to expect, and I just sat at my desk during the whole thing. I think the quake was a 5.4 and the epicenter was in Chino Hills, which is 36 miles east of where we live. Definitely an unforgettable moment. So, wh...

Birthday Celebrations

I was lucky to have two days of birthday celebration this year. Jay had to work on my birthday (Saturday) and we had a ward Thanksgiving dinner that night, but Jay did have Friday off from work so I told him that we'd play that day instead. And play we did. Downtown in Pershing Square at the ice rink. And we were the only ones there. Jack LOVED it, we LOVED it. It was wonderful! After Jack's nap, we headed to Burbank's holiday festival kickoff. I was sad that they didn't close the street down like last year. Jack loved the truck and carolers and "snow" last year, so it was disappointing to not have any of that. It was a little crowded, but we still had a great time. On Saturday, I was spoiled by friends Jane and Seth. While Jack and Ryan slept, Seth monitored them and played with them when they woke up while Jane took me to lunch, frozen yogurt, and a much needed mani-pedi. It was so wonderful!
