Blog Slacker

I haven't posted for a while because I felt like we really haven't done anything too exciting recently, but we did have a few fun trips. On February 18, we drove out to Shannan and Jim's to spend the day with Shannan and her girls, Adrienne and her kids, and my dad. Adrienne and my dad had driven from Utah the day before and were staying for a week with Shannan and Jim. It was so great to spend the day with them and watch the kids run around at the park. Jack loves climbing stairs and going down the slide at the park, so he had a great time. And this park had some awesome toys.
The only bad thing about the trip was that Jack had a super horrible diaper rash (he got it a week and a half earlier and we weren't having much success curing it- it was his very first rash ever), and we had to change him pretty much constantly. I ended up calling the pediatrician the next morning and was informed that if it lasts more than three days to begin with, it's usually a fungal infection. We are still trying to clear up the last little bit and it's been 4 weeks. Poor Jack has been extremely patient while getting his diaper changed, especially when we break out the blow dryer. We're seeing just a few small signs of it now, so I think we're almost in the clear.

There's a park by our apartment that has a train and pony rides. We've been down there before but had never ridden the train, so we decided to give it a try. Jack really liked it.

Jay's parents came to stay with us this past week.
We went to Downtown Disney- Jack loved the fountains
Hiked Mt. Hollywood
and visited the Autry Museum.
We were so glad we got to spend time with them and were so sad to see them leave on Tuesday night. Yesterday morning I asked Jack if he missed Grandma and Grandpa and he immediately went to the living room to search for them.
Jack is starting to talk more and is so funny. His first word was cheese, but he can also say chick chick (the Target version of Goldfish crackers are Chickadees and I call them chick chicks), peas, mama and dada (although he never calls us that- he just says it), uh-oh, up, papa (grandpa) and this morning he said nana (banana). He signs please and knows if we ask if he wants more to sign please to get more, so that's progress. Both Jay and I had activities at the church last night and I left before Jay to take Jack home. He was so tired and sad and I told him we'd get his puppies when we got home (he has three now and they are his favorite toys). He was still so upset when we got home and I tried to get him ready for bed. Then I remembered I told him he could have his puppies and as soon as I gave them to him, he was happy. I've got to remember that this boy now understands a lot of what I say and I better follow through! He's climbing everything (or at least trying to) including Jay and me. He loves to walk up the stairs and takes these huge steps to make sure he reaches the next one. He loves dogs and fountains and squeals/screams every time he sees one. He's just a lot of fun!!

So sad about the diaper rash. I'm glad it's finally getting cleared up. We always use butt paste which works well, but maybe in this case it wouldn't have helped if it was a fungal infection. I'm glad you guys had visitors. It sounds like Jack is growing up way too fast. Our boys still don't say much but I can tell they understand a lot more than I give them credit for.
