On Friday, August 14, Jay and I spent our first night apart so Jay could go camping with the Young Men on the second camping trip they have had in the three years we've lived here. Jay isn't involved with the Young Men in church, but our ward is small and a little different than most, so Jay went to help the Young Men's president since he was short a few leaders.
They left Friday afternoon and drove a little over an hour to Mt. Baldy campground.

Friday night they set up camp, hiked to a waterfall, and enjoyed tinfoil dinners and lots and lots of smores. (at least the young men did)

On Saturday, they hiked Mt. Baldy, whose elevation is 10,064 feet. Some of the boys and one leader couldn't quite make it to the top since the hike ended up being a little harder than anyone anticipated. But Jay said it was worth it. The only downside was there were fires in Santa Barbara that day and the smoke blocked the view of the ocean.
All in all, they had a great time and I think Jay learned quite a bit from camping with boys who had never been camping before. I'm sure he has a list of things he'll be sure to teach our son when he's old enough. :)
