Universal Studios

My dad and his wife, Sharon, came out to California for a short trip. They stopped in La Quinta first to visit Shannan, Jim, and the girls. On Tuesday morning, they made the drive from La Quinta to LA (while experiencing some of that famous LA traffic), and we met up with them in the afternoon. Their hotel was right next to Universal Studios so we decided that would be a fun way to spend our day. None of us had been there so we didn't know what to expect, but we had a great time. Our favorite rides were Revenge of the Mummy and the new Simpson's Ride.

One of my favorite parts of the day was watching this mummy guy chase Sharon around while my dad stood there laughing.

We went to a special effects show, and the workers asked for a female volunteer. My dad gave me this look like this was something I really needed to do, so I appeased him and made a fool of myself on stage while the host of the show demonstrated some of the special effects they use on TV and movies. Let's just say that next time I'll be a little more hesitant to volunteer. There is a reason that Jay is the actor in the family. Here's me "on stage" before the show.

After we left Universal Studios, we had a yummy dinner at Tony Roma's and then showed Dad and Sharon our apartment. We played the Trivial Pursuit game that Jay got for free for being a contestant on the show. It was a little more than slightly frustrating since none of us knew the majority of the answers. But we had fun anyway. Thanks for stopping to see us, Dad and Sharon. We had a great time!

What a fun day. How long did it take them to get out there? I can't believe Jay didn't school everyone at Trivial Persuit. You might have to bring that out at Thanksgiving so we can all show how little we know!

How fun! You are brave to volunteer. I am usually content to just sit back and watch, especially if I am going to be made a fool of or am expected to be funny.

Sounds like you had a fine time. We'll have to plan something fun while I'm there at Thanksgiving.
