We have a sweet friend from church named Barbara. She used to teach the music in primary, so Jack knows and loves her. She won tickets to have breakfast with Santa in downtown LA and invited me, Jack, and our friend Ryan to go with her. It sounded like so much fun so I got a babysitter for Claire, and we headed out for the day.
The breakfast was on December 14 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the LA Music Center, right next to the Disney Concert Hall. We walked in the doors and were greeted with piles of snow (similar to batting) lining the path to the elevator, with presents and Santa's mailbox. We went up the elevator and as we came out saw an elf who pointed out where we could play in some snow. There was a bubble snow machine set up right in front of the door to the ballroom where the buffet breakfast was held. The boys twirled around and played in the "snow" til it was our turn to go inside.
We found our table, which was right in front of Santa's fireplace and chair. The boys sat so well as we gathered food from the 3 food buffets. I didn't know what exactly they would like so I got a little of everything. And of course I didn't mind trying a little of everything too. ;) It was all so delicious!
While we were eating, Santa appeared at the door and came around to each table to say hi. Afterwards he went to his chair and let the kids come visit with him and sit on his lap.
We headed to the craft area to make ornaments while we waited for the line to see Santa died down. The boys loved it, and each made 3 ornaments even though making them included gluing small pieces to the ornaments and took quite some time. They did great and were very patient as their ornaments dried. They liked the ornaments to much, they didn't have any desire to decorate cookies, which I was just fine with. Less mess that way!
We then went to chat with Santa, and the boys took turns telling Santa what they both wanted, and they both told him they wanted a remote control airplane. Ha! I love how they influence each other so well.
After we had a good chat with Santa and got some good pictures it was time to go to our next event. Not only did Barbara win tickets to the breakfast, but she got tickets to the Disney Concert Hall where the LA Master Chorale were performing their Festival of Carols.
The boys had sat so well during the breakfast, I was a little nervous that they would only sit through two or three songs. But they did fairly well, with only a few moments of making loud noises and poking each other a few times (that was mostly Jack), and we ended up being able to stay til intermission, an hour into the concert.
I'm so glad they did well because the music was beautiful. It's been so long since I've listened to a wonderful concert, and it was a Christmas concert which made it even more wonderful!
We had such a great day, and we can't thank Barbara enough for inviting us!
