Homemade

My older sisters will tell you that before I got married there was one brief moment in time when I worried I might not find a husband because I wasn't crafty and wasn't a great cook. In fact, they still tease me about it to this day. While many years ago I was worried about not being as creative and crafty as other girls were, I'm over it now and I just enjoy the things that I actually do make.

A few months ago, my friend and neighbor, Jane, offered to help teach me how to make strawberry freezer jam. And it was delicious! It was also gone in about three weeks even though I had three big containers of it. That's how much Jay and I love jam. So a few weeks ago when peaches were on sale, Jane and I decided to make peach freezer jam, and ended up making some peach/strawberry jam also. Also so delicious.
The other project I've been thinking about was a shopping cart cover. Jack has almost outgrown his carseat, and in all reality he'd rather be sitting high watching everything anyway. So I figured it was a perfect project. Except that I'm not really a sewer. I used to sew, many many years ago in jr. high, but lately my sewing skills have not been up to snuff. Lucky for me, Jane was also thinking about making one and offered to help me again. So last week we traced a cart cover and began making mine. I think it turned out great. And I'm even more excited that it's something I made.

Jack looks so cute sitting up in the cart. I can't believe how big he is getting! I actually need to make some more freezer jam. I have to make several flats worth of strawberries into freezer jam to get Jeff, and the rest of us - but mostly Jeff, through the winter. I LOVE freezer jam. Yum.

I think it's funny when I realize how easy some of these things are to make...I am the same way too. I am not very crafty, but with a little help and instruction I do all right!

I'm so glad you posted this. I've been feeling guilty about my lack of craftiness for years! I think you're right about learning to just enjoy the things you do make. I'm totally impressed with your shopping cart cover. And you'll have to send us a sample of the jam - sounds delicious!
